Beachwear ban in Barcelona

The article linked to below describes the newly imposed ban by Barcelona authorities on beachwear in places other than the beach. Good for them! Just as we find tattered jeans and t-shirts unsightly in restaurants, it seems inappropriate to wear bathing suits while shopping or visiting tourist attractions. And no, we don't regard it a hardship to ask that people go back to their rooms and change before heading out.

I don't recognize the beach used to illustrate this article, and suspect may be another Spanish beach. But I could be wrong. Anyway, here's a photo of the Barcelona beaches looking toward Barceloneta. The W hotel can be glimpsed at the extreme left:

While the water is pretty clean and pleasantly warm from now to October, the man-made beaches constructed during the buildup to the 1992 Olympics, have little charm. There's no natural vegetation or dunes and little sea life.

The promenade is a different story; wide, clean and passing by some striking architecture and sculpture on the way to Barceloneta, where you can grab a beer at a beach bar or sit down to paella at Con Majo or Cava Mar (which was serving delicious white sangria when we were last there). Here's a shot at night last September:

As is typical along the Mediterranean coast, structures are not built right on the shore; typically there is a promenade, road or park (or sometimes all three) between buildings and the water. That means true beachfront property is rare. Apartments we offer are two or three blocks from the beach, which is not far to walk.
