Best Paris streets for wandering? Here are 10+

You need only glance at any travel magazine cover, or countless other publications, to realize that editors believe numbers in teaser headlines drive readers to stories. It's always "26 ways to do this" or "the 15 best that." So, here's an online article titled "The ten Paris streets you just have to walk down." I imagine you could walk up them, too, but I'm not sure; perhaps they wouldn't be as pretty the other way. Anyone who has spent any time in Paris could easily supplement this list, because there are a lot more than 10 beautiful and memorable streets in the City of Light.

Here's one candidate: Rue des Saules in Montmartre. If possible, it's better to walk down this one, as it's pretty steep between Rue Norvins and Rue Caulaincourt. On the way you pass the famed La Maison Rose and Au Lapin Agile cafes, both better in memory than in fact, and have sweeping views to the north.
La Maison rose makes a pleasant stop along Rue des Saules in Montmartre.
The article lists Rue Montorgueil, the bustling commercial street in the 2nd, as one of its top 10. But if you'd like to stroll a pretty street in the same neighborhood without so much company, just go a block to the west to Rue Montmartre. This also is lined with charming outdoor cafes and shops facing the wide sidewalks and mostly pedestrianized motorway, but absent the overwhelming commercialism.
Rue Montmartre is lined with cafes, but is less hectic than nearby Rue Montorgueil
It it's a bustling foodie street you want, you also can head over the river to the 7th arrondissement and gawk at all the shops and stands on Rue Cler. There are some very good suppliers here, including the generically named La Fromagerie cheese shop and Jeusselin, a foie gras specialis.

On the Left Bank, you can find any number of charming small streets, such as Rue de Seine. Wander over to Rue Clovis near the Pantheon, and you can find yourself on the steps made famous in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris."

The article suggests a walk along the quai of the pretty Canal Saint-Martin. I'd suggest a better "street," the canal itself. You can take a casual cruise in either direction, along the route going underground at the Bastille, a pretty unique experience.

This is not even to mention Ile Saint-Louis, with its two main streets lined with restaurants and shops and small small cross streets going out to the quais on the Seine.
L'Ile Flottante sells Berthillon ice cream, but the maker's place is just around the corner.
So, don't limit yourself to someone else's top 10 list when looking for a special stroll in Paris; pretty much anywhere you stay you can find a street that fits your mood and leaves you with memories to cherish back home.

Here's a new apartment right on Rue Montorgueil, but facing the courtyard so you can escape the hubbub when you wish. It's a nice sized one bedroom with a sleep sofa in the living are for another couple of the kids.

This apartment is off Boulevard Magenta, in a typical neighborhood near Place de la Republique. Tourists are fewer here, but there are plenty of local eating and shopping places all around.
