Destinations in the news

Sorry to be away for so long. An unexpected medical crisis has kept me quiet but things are looking better and I'm able to get back in the saddle.

The New York Times is featuring both Barcelona and Paris this week in travel articles. The one linked here,

focuses on a Modernista architect who was one of the more famous Antoni Gaudi's teachers, but who left behind striking monuments of his own. We've been to the Palau de la Musica for two memorable performances that were made even more special by the spectacular surroundings. Here's a shot of the lobby, where you can grab a quick bite or sip before the show:

Paris is the subject of the Times's weekly "36 Hours" feature, which I find shallow and limited to shopping, eating and nightlife. I guess if you only have a short weekend that may be enough. And like most travel articles, you are directed to the writer's "finds" that may or may not suit your tastes. To its credit, the Times includes reader comments on dining and lodging, which gives readers a few more ideas.

I was pleased to see the Canal Saint-Martin area mentioned.  We stayed a block away from this charming and unpretentious neighborhood in the fall and enjoyed strolling aside the calming waterway, clambering over the cast-iron bridges and watching model boaters practice their sailing skills. Here's a photo:

On the rental front, we've been getting more inquiries about Paris and steady questions for Barcelona. We're pretty pleased with our owners and feel we offer a nice selection of options by location, price and style, particularly in Barcelona. In Paris we'd like to have more properties on the Left Bank. But unless we find some online that we're really comfortable with that will have to wait until next trip, as we are careful about who we deal with.
