Barcelona's wonderful markets

Say "market" in Barcelona and you are likely to hear in response, "Boqueria." Officially named Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, this sprawling complex of fish, produce and meat vendors - plus some always-packed food counters - just off the bustling Las Ramblas is on everyone's radar. Even if you aren't in the mood for shopping, it's worth a spin around just for the spectacle.

But as the article here points out, La Boqueria is far from the only market in Barcelona, and no matter where you are staying in the city, there's one not far from you. Here's the link:

Here's a meat vendor's stand in the smaller La Concepcio market in the Eixample Dreta district. There's a full selection of produce, olives, fish and other foods, plus a regular supermarket in the basement. Out front is a 24-hour flower market, something even Boqueria doesn't have.

 The Sant Antoni market across the Eixample is temporarily housed near the classic building that awaits refurbishment. But a Sunday flea market focused on literature and art continues.
